Brass Founders, Sheffield Opening Ceremony!

October 9, 2017

The Create Construction team at Brass Founders, Sheffield have successfully completed the new 437-bed purpose built student accommodation. We were delighted to attend the opening, on the 13th September 2017, to celebrate the work and partnership between Create Construction and Crosslane Group. The ceremony was conducted by the Lord Mayor of Sheffield Councillor Anne Murphy, Roberta Goulsbra, Development Manager at Crosslane Student Developments, and Adrian Tottey, Managing Director at Create Construction.

The property comprises of three new residential blocks of six, seven and eight storeys, laid out in a U-shape to form a large, private landscaped courtyard within which residents can study, collaborate and socialise. High specification materials have been selected to create a brick and glass façade with solar panels on the roof and outbuildings that have a green “living” roof.

Of the 437 beds, 144 are high specification self-contained studio apartments and 293 are premium en-suite bedrooms arranged in cluster flats of up to six bedrooms, sharing a lounge, kitchen and dining area. There is a washer/dryer in every kitchen and superfast 250MB broadband and Wi-Fi throughout the building. The property has substantial shared communal facilities on the ground floor, which has been zoned into different areas including a games zone, onsite gym, cinema/multi-media room, study zone and meeting hubs, relaxing lounge and snug, as well as a vending area to grab a free drink 24/7. Separately, there is a luxury kitchen and 18-seater dining area for entertaining, complete with Bluetooth speakers. Bike storage facilities are provided to encourage students to cycle.

Adrian Tottey, Managing Director, Create Construction, said:

“We are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Crosslane Student Developments and to have led a collaborative team to bring this exciting scheme to fruition, on time and on budget. To have completed such a high-quality development in a little over twelve months is a great achievement for all involved.”

Commenting on the event, Robert Goulsbra, Development Manager, Crosslane Student Developments, said:

“We are delighted to be opening Brass Founders in the St Vincent’s Quarter of Sheffield, our first development in the city.

The purpose-built student accommodation development was fully let ahead of expectations, underlining its differentiated offer in Sheffield in terms of its high quality specification and facilities as well as amenities and social activities for the students. The property is located a short walk to the main campus building of both of Sheffield’s universities and the city centre.

Crosslane continues to grow its secured development pipeline in the UK, which already sits at over 1,800 beds across seven sites that are all within a 15 minute walk to the university campus.”

Lord Mayor, Councillor Anne Murphy, said:

“I am very pleased to be opening Brass Founders, Crosslane’s first student accommodation property in Sheffield. I am delighted that the property has been developed with solar panels and a green “living” roof which, enhanced by a focus on recycling and bike storage to encourage cycling, delivers an admirable sustainable approach to development. With over 60,000 students across two popular higher education institutions in Sheffield, the city continues to see significant demand for well located, high quality purpose-built student accommodation. It was delightful to meet the team from Crosslane who chose the city of Sheffield to develop their first high quality student accommodation in Yorkshire.”
